New school desks for the elementary school in Adetikopé

Many schools in Togo lack school desks – together with our partner initiative in Adetikopé, we are working to build new desks so that there is enough space in the classroom.

The problem

The Ayayi elementary school is located in Adétikopé, a fast-growing outskirts of the capital Lomé. Every year, many new children come to the school. In 2019, new school desks were carpentered with donations and the commitment of some parents, which was a great relief. But in the meantime, the number of children has increased and new desks are again urgently needed.

The approach

The school management and the parents’ committee estimated that 24 additional desks would be needed for 2020. Two fathers who work as carpenters have offered to make the school desks at a reasonable price. They will also repair old school ones that are in need of repair.

Our contribution

Solidarität konkret e.V. has forwarded a total of 610€ for 20 school desks in 2020. Since every year more students start school than leave, we are still looking for donations for new school desks. 30€ are enough for a new school desk.

Construction of a guest room on the farm Gavisa

The farm GAVISA Togo has a beautiful location – on a high plateau near Kpalimé, near a mountain river.

Unfortunately, the farm has lacked an overnight accommodation for visitors and guests. According to the GAVISA Togo team, this was particularly unfortunate, as the farm is located in a region that is attractive to tourists, and the project could use more public visibility and income from overnight guests.
